You bring up a very good point (this very point being used by Waterfallers against Agilists), in an Agile environment, the developer is a Project Manager and a Business Analyst, as well as other roles. But probably that's why the Project Manager role still exists in an Agile Project (there are lots of articles written on the usefulness of a Project Manager in Agile).

Having knowledge and even some experience in another area can make you better in your own specialization. A developer who has knowledge of the BA role will make a better developer. For one they can communicate better with the BA.
