I find that I cannot seem to hack stuff together when I code. I'm very much more inclined to take the time to write the tests, and let the code flow out that way, though I'm a little less disciplined with the red-green-refactor approach of tdd when I'm working alone. Today I wanted to pull out a piece of common functionality into a Util class and I found that I couldn't just pull it out, but I spent about 30 mins writing the tests for it as well.

It might be useful to be able to stop yourself from spending too much time on certain things, spikes especially, but I think we have to get to a point where we have practiced and honed the skills of being disciplined when it comes to writing code to be able to put that aside when it needs to be put aside.
